If you have a pool in your home, you would love to take a dip in the water during winter as well. Cold water isn’t something that you cherish and so you know that you need a good pool heating system.
The question is, which one do you choose pool heating systems?
There are four major types of pool heating systems available today – those powered by solar, electric heat, electric elements or gas. There are numerous factors that determine the best system for your pool that include your needs, desires, the physical location of the pool and the house and your budget. Varying weather patterns and different energy pricing structures in different states of Australia also influence your decision.
Solar Pool Heating
Due to the use of free energy from the sun, solar pool heating system is extremely popular. Such a system works by direct heat transfer where the pool water is circulated through the collector commonly located on the roof of your house. A digital controller is a favorite choice that sends water to the roof when there is proper sunshine. It has a minimal operating cost and is great for recreational pool owners.
Electric Element
Such heaters are built for a purpose and offer a low purchase cost option that can be easily installed and is compact in nature. It works in a similar fashion as an electric kettle does as there is direct heat transferred between the pool water and the immersed element. The unit is small-sized and thus ideal for places where space is an issue or gas supply is not available. Also, if the special installation needs of a heat pump cannot be met, then an element is the next best option.
Gas Heating
This system allows a lot of flexibility to pool owners because of its ability to rapidly heat the water. Gas heaters maintain any desired water temperature easily as it is capable of achieving a 14-degree C rise in water temperature in 24 hours. Through this, a cold pool can be heated to a comfortable 28 – 30 degrees C in just one day even during winter.
Electric Heat Pump
It is also known as the ‘solar heat pump’ because it can capture heat value from air temperature and turn it into heating of water with good efficiency. Pool owners who wish to swim most of the year should opt for such a system. Such systems work as a reversed air conditioner would. The pump takes large quantities of atmosphere air, removes the heat contained in it and transfers it to the pool water or spa, passing through the unit.
Apart from these well-known pool heating systems, there is yet another heating system that is becoming popular these days and is known as the Spa Heating system. Spa heating doesn’t run on any different principle. It requires one of the most powered forms of heating which can be gas, element or heat pump heating. A dedicated heater or a pool heater can heat the spa if the hydraulic design so allows it.
